Pitch of Single-Pattern-Playback is more random than described in known quirks
Reported by spriteful | February 8th, 2011 @ 05:24 PM
I have read the following in the manual:
"an indeterminate value for Transpose will be set if you haven't
first played the Song or a Chain before playing a Pattern (starting
playback from within the Pattern editor)."
However, I find that even if I first play the Song or Chain, once I navigate to the corresponding Pattern window and press Start to listen to that pattern, the pitch will be transposed by a seemingly random amount. (When this happens, often low pitches are played as very high pitches, perhaps due to some kind of wrap-around.)
This makes it cumbersome to work on notes in a pattern while trying to repeatedly preview the notes.
(This happens on Pulsar v1.01, on both Nestopia/OS X and on Powerpak.)
The problem can be replicated as follows:
-reset emulator -go to utilities page, perform 'init all' -go to
song page, channel A step 00, insert Chain 00 -go to editor of
Chain:00, step 00, insert Pattern 00 with Transpose 00 -go to
editor of Pattern:00 -enter this test pattern: 00 A1 00 -00
01 A2 00 -00
02 A3 00 -00
03 A4 00 -00
-navigate back to Chain:00 editor -press Start to play, note that
playback sounds correct, press Start to stop -navigate back to
Pattern:00 editor -press Start to play, note that notes are pitched
incorrectly, and also that the first 2 notes seem to be several
octaves too high
